Kintaro's Musings on Kotonishiki's Retirement

Due to the overwhelming response (both of you), I have just added yet
another page of pictures to Kintaro's World. Pictures from Kotonishiki's
retirement ceremony can be seen at:

You can see Kotonishiki's last professional bout (against Takatoriki). You
can also finally see Kotonowaka's new Kesho mawashi -- definitely favorites
with the kids.

If you get the chance to attend a retirement, it is a pleasant afternoon.
Comic sumo, sumo demonstrations, Dohyo-iri ceremonies, and a full slate of
Juryo and Makuuchi bouts. The lads don't fight as hard as during a basho,
of course, but it's a good show.

The hair cutting itself is incredibly boring. A very loonngg parade of
ancient Japanese businessmen supporters, finally getting their moment in
the spotlight. Fortunately the refreshment stands sell sake and beer to
take the edge off the tedium. The only sparks in the first hour of cutting
were the occasional appearances by celebrities. Actually, one of the early
ovations was for the funky guy (with the fan) who shows such exuberance
during the Yokozuna dohyo-iri.

Kintaro heads up the Hanamichi...
