Amateur Sumo Report

It's learned that Toru Kakizoe (177 cm tall 135 kg),
senior at Nihon Taiiku University Sumo Club, will be
joining Musashino Beya shortly.

Kakizoe has just won the Open Category at the World
Sumo Championship held in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He is
the current Univerisity Yokozuna and possesses 17
titles at amateur sumo tournaments. He is qualified
for Makushita 15 level Tsukedashi ranking.

----------

At the All Japan Sumo Championship held at the
Kokugikan on December 10, Izumi Uchida, second year
student at Nichi-Dai Sumo Club defeated an Nichi-Dai
grad, Takahisa Osanai (Aomori Prefecture Sports
Development Agency) in the final to gain his first All
Japan Championship.

20 year old Uchida is hoping to join Ozumo and is
happy to receive Makushita 15 Tsukedashi ranking
qualification. Osanai has just come back from the
World Sumo Tournament held in Sao Paulo Brazil where
he won the Heavyweight division (the same one Kakizoe
won the Open).

Incidentally Kakizoe could not compete at the
Championship due to a knee injury he suffered at the
World Championship.
