The statistics should come as no surprise...it is well documented that the
body type represented by (most) rikishi is not noted for long lifespans. The
longest livers are naturally rather thin, and not much above average in
height.  I would bet that if you studied longevity among pro athletes in the
US, football linemen would be well below average, and they would be the most
rikishi-like.  It would be interesting also to compare longevity of track
shotputters and long distance runners.
