Review -- Sumo Roundtable Report for Y2K

Now that the dust has finally settled on the tedious discussion of vagrants
and plumbers' cleavage, it's time for a mid-year review of the Y2K Sumo
Roundtable Report provided by our cyber-rikishi Yokozeki ® in December last
year. You may remember the roundtable was held at a shabu-shabu restaurant
near Shinjuku. In attendance were Yokozuna Peroginishiki, (then) Ozeki
Kintaro, Ozeki Obana, and Ozeki Kesamaiasa (via satellite feed from the land
down-under). Let's see how the Yokozeki ® predictions stack-up after three
basho:

<< YUSHO predictions:
<< Kintaro -- Musashimaru 3, Takanohana 2, Kaio 1
<< Obana -- Musashimaru 3, Taka 2, Musoyama 1/2 and Kaio 1/2
<< Peroginishiki -- Musashimaru 2, Takanohana 2, Dejima 1 and
<< Musoyama 1/2 and Tochiazuma 1/2
<< Kesamaiasa -- Akebono 1, Musashimaru 2, Takanohana 2
<< (Wakanohana will not win a Yusho, but he won't retire either
<< because Dad still needs the money)

Score: Kintaro and Obana each pick up 1 point, Perogi grabs 1/2 point, and
Kesamaiasa sadly looks to the future.

<< NEW SANYAKU:
<< Kintaro -- Toki
<< Obana -- Aogiyama
<< Peroginishiki -- Takanowaka
<< Kesamaiasa -- New Sanyaku? ... Kesa isn't sure who the old Sanyaku are

Ugghhh... not much to report here... Thankfully, the year's not over yet.

<< RETIREMENTS:
<< Kintaro - Akebono AND Wakanohana, Takatoriki, Ganyu, Mitoizumi,
<< Tomonohana, and kawika (who will retire to the Island of Broken Toys).
<< Obana - Akebono AND Wakanohana, Terao, Ichinoya.
<< Peroginishiki - Akebono and/or Wakanohana, Terao, Oginishiki,
<< Daishi, Mitoizumi, Kitakachidoki.
<< Kesamaiasa - Mitoizumi, Kotonishiki, Akebono AND Takanonami will go.

<< Note: Kintaro also predicted a 'reverse retirement' - the triumphant
<< return of Chuck Finberg and his crystal ball to the dohyo.

Whoa! Kintaro takes a commanding lead with the four additional points,
although he is sad that Ganyu (the Yokozuna on his knees) is gone.

<< NEW YOKO-ZEKI:
<< Kintaro - No new Yokozuna or Ozeki
<< Obana - Kaio in, Chiyotaikai out
<< Peroginishiki - Musoyama ("the new Takanonami - go Musashi factor!")
<< and possibly Tochiazuma.
<< Kesamaiasa misses another round as he is toasting the Queen Mum
<< with some friends. (No, the Queen Mum is not Kotonowaka's Mother)

Perogi correctly picks Musoyama.

Well, the cyber-rikishi Yokozeki ® still have three basho to go. We'll visit
these predictions again in December.

Kintaro is leaving on a surprise Jungyo next week. Kintaro will be visiting
Landshut, Germany June 18-20. Then a quick jump over to Antwerp June 21-24 to
do keiko with all that lovely Belgian beer. [Note: I scheduled vacation to
block-out the entire Nagoya Basho, so Kintaro's Musings will be on-line.] The
next scheduled Jungyo will be to Taipei in August. Better do your keiko, RJ.

Gambatte!
