There was a debate on the list a couple of months
back concerning women on the dohyo. One of the
arguments of the proponents of the ban was that
allowing feminine flesh to touch the sacred dirt
would ruin a key aspect of sumo, and, as a result,
the sport would no longer be as enjoyable for them.
The wry observation above (wry: Dryly humorous,
often with a touch of irony) serves to show that,
as sumo was not destroyed by allowing women to
begin watching matches in the 19th century, and
sumo is not destroyed by allowing women onto the
yokozuna promotion council, neither will sumo
be destroyed by female contact with the blessed
sand of the dohyo. :)
