[sumo dictionary] Sumo Slang & Terms- Aikuchi
Aikuchi- a term referring to a rikishi's record against another rikishi,
regardless of his actual skill or strength. Good aikuchi (aikuchi ga ii)
means that the rikishi usually wins against that particular opponent. Bad
aikuchi (aikuchi ga warui) means that rikishi usually loses to that
opponent. For example, Chiyonofuji, despite being an incredibly strong
yokozuna, often lost to Takanosato. Against Takanosato, Chiyonofuji's
aikuchi was bad; against Chiyonofuji, Takanosato's aikuchi was good.
Perhaps the best example of aikuchi can be seen with Kotonishiki and
Akinoshima. Having met 48 times, Kotonishiki has a resounding lead of 39-9
against Akinoshima, who has often defeated yokozuna and Ozeki.
