Re: [commentary] Interesting low rankers results
As if I need to, would like to recommend Abe-san's site. Just looked up my
own local heyas (even if they haven't adopted me, I've definitely adopted
them). Probably will only get to see them once a year when they are down
the road from where I live in Osaka, but thanks to this site can easily
follow the rikishi in Asahiyama and Shikihide beyas (no answer to why
Asahiyama Oyakata has that cone head yet though ;-) ).
First and of most personal interest to me is the 5-2 record of the 18 year
old Mongolian Daibanjaku. Started off well with 4 straight wins, then two
losses and one final win to cap it off. From Jonokuchi 13e though he still
has a long way to go.
Back to Juryo hopeful Ogura (formerly Daihisho when in Juryo) went well with
a 5-2 kachi-koshi, but from Makushita 27e still a few basho before he gets
to put the apron back on I'd say. Fukuseyama who from all at the heya
thought was making a rush for Juryo, from Makushita 21w went the other way
with 1-6.
Masumi's site has a full listing of all the foreign rikishi and all of the
records from top to bottom. I recommend a perusal, as there is more to Sumo
than the 40 in the top division (over 800 in total) and is lots of fun to
adopt your own up and coming foreign rikishi, or other young or old (e.g.
Ichinoya) Japanese hopeful something you've heard about them on the list, or
even from an appealing shikona, then watch their progress over the years.
Cheers, Pete.
