Wait, I think it is pretty easy to compare sumo to NON-American sports.
For example, cricket? Just like sumo but they get to use paddles and the
dohyo is much bigger.
Rugby? Again just like sumo but bigger dohyo and they have this funny
shaped ball they fight over.
Football (soccer)? You got it, bigger dohyo and round ball that they touch
with their feet only.
All of these sports have gyoji, though they lack the cool kimono action.
All these sports have more than one wrestler playing at one time, making it
a 'team' sport. ;-)
