If I could add my own two bits - that all hope is not
lost. 

TV Japan *can* be convinced otherwise.  As long as
it's been shown on NHK whether Sogo, Kyoiku or BS-1/2,
it's possible that they will show it another time.

I've seen some "Kayo" or J-Pop programs originally
shown on BS in Japan on TV Japan later on, usually to
replace when originally scheduled programs are not
avaialable like pre-empted by news or some other
specials not copyrighted outside Japan.

Remember during the first few days of the new year,
many regular programs will be replaced by specials
like "jidai-geki" or comedy or music programs.  

It could be shown later on in January...or better
still we could always make sure by starting an e-mail
campaigne to TV-J after all they are a pay service,
almost not dictated by advertizers ...well except by
Asahi Dry or Japan Air Lines or Kuroneko Yamato etc...
