I know this is a sumo mail list but I need to respond. Value? Come on.
The man has the second most NCAA titles next to John Wooden of UCLA and he
had the help of Bill Walton and Lew Alcindor. Knight is the last coach to
lead a team undefeated through the regular season and tournament. UNLV
could have done it in 91(?) but their joke of a coach couldn't get around
the pressure defense of Coach "K" (who was a Knight assistant at Army) and
Duke. I am not going to argue that he is a great man but he KNOWS the game
of basketball and will continue to have a winning program until he retires.
Even though the 90's were an "off" decade for the Hoosiers he did manage to
compile the most wins in the Big Ten.
Even though this is more than most of you wanted, I am a lover of
fundamentally sound sports and Knight provides that and teaches that in
every game. This is also why I admire Wakanohana so much because he is one
of the most fundamentally sound rikishis that I have seen. I haven't seen
many rikishi but I am impressed with what he brings to the sport.
